Corpse Bride

" With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cups will never empty for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine." This is the Vow in the movie Corpse Bride.

I watched this movie with Hwa when he came to visit me last year. It's a very short animation movie with a simple plot. To be honest, it was not as good as I thought it would be. I didn't understand very well either. That might be a reason that affected my evaluation.

Today, I got a chance to watch it again, partly because I want to figure out what the safekeeping was yelling when he shaken the bell each time. It's kind of funny that this time I think the movie is actually pretty good. What interested me most were two movie scripts.

One was the vow I wrote at the beginning of this article. Very special, very touching. The vow has been used several times in the movie. At the beginning, when Victor was asked to marry Victory, whom he has never seen before, he couldn't even remember the whole vow at the rehearsal's time because he was not in love with her. However, after he fell in love with Victory and tried to practice the vow in the woods, he accidently put the ring on Emily's finger. (This is the second time when the vow was repeated in the movie.) Victor made the vow the third time when he decided to give up his life for Emily and marry her after hearing the news that Victory was married.

The other one is what Emily said before she left for heaven at the end of the movie. When Emily tried to leave quietly from Victor and Victoria, Victor stopped her and said "Wait, I made a promise." Emily, then, turned back and said "You kept your promise. You set me free. Now I can do the same for you." Very impressive.

Finally, after watching it again, I figured out what the safekeeping was yelling in the movie. Even more, I found something that are worth noticing. Another striking element of the movie is the color scheme. In the live world, there is no bright color, making the whole world nearly black and white. Special choice.
